According to Hindu Mythology, Holika was immune
from fire by a divine blessing. Thus, believing fire would not burn her,
Hiranyakashipu ordered Holika to enter a burning fire holding his son
Pralhad-who was a devout of lord Bishnu against his father’s will-in her
lap so that the son would perish.
However, Holika perished in
the fire, while Pralhad escaped safe. Then, people started celebrating
the death of evil Holika by throwing colour at each other.
